The Touch
Acrylic on canvas 28" x 36" This painting was done during the Prophetic Arts Conference at Christ Church Kirkland in 2010. The touch represents the enigmatic moment in time when contact with the unclean person no longer makes anyone else unclean. This image has two sets of hands in motion shaping the composition. The hands of the supplicant, the leper asking for healing echo the sense of his arms length request, knowing he could not and should not get too close to the crowd. His head, with downward glance, accentuates an embarrassed plea. Then there is the hand of Jesus already reaching out to touch the untouchable. After such a moment of healing, the hand of Jesus would also no longer be unclean. This painting is about getting to get to that moment.
