Road Less Traveled
Road Less Traveled

Acrylic 24” x 32”

This painting was done during a worship time at the Nova Scotia Ashram in July of 2008. The essence of this painting is that the road following Jesus is hard. The figure in the foreground, painted in cool colors with heavy shadows, portrays the focus and steadfastness of the person on this journey. Their eyes are downcast to see their footing and also to ignore the taunts of those looking on from the shadows. The main downward thrust of light along the arm draws attention to the grip of the hand on the staff and lets one feel the weight of the figure leaning heavily on the staff for balance. This is the staff of comfort and guidance. It represents the way and the path beneath his feet.
